The Art of Thrifting

Thrifting has been part of my life since I was a kid.  My grandmother was dedicated to checking thrift stores.  I loved going with her to find the next treasure.  When I was in college, thrifting was how I maintained a wardrobe and stocked my dorm room. I love going into the local stores, talking to the people and finding out the occasional history about something in the store, or just getting a great bargain.

As I have gotten older, my dedication to thrifting has becoming a little more challenging.  A huge part of that has been with becoming a Mom, though I often found few baby items online, having the time to go into the Thrift shop with a baby was never an easy task.  Then with a toddler, it was really like I was stocking the shelves of thrift store as my son hurricaned through all the shelves.  There are a few local kids consignment stores that I loved checking both here on Vancouver Island and in the surrounding areas of Vancouver.

My favorite online consignment store has become  It is an online store based in Victoria, BC.  My favorite thing, it has a bit of everything.  It has sports gear, indoor toys, outdoor toys, puzzles, books and even a Grandma’s Attic and Grandpa’s Garage section.  It has a mix of new and vintage things which I love.  When my oldest son got into the Planes movie, he really wanted to save up to get a the Cabbie plane.  Well I looked EVERYWHERE for one. Every thrift store, eBay, amazon, you name it.  Since the movie was a bit older it was super hard to find some characters, and the harder to find characters were went into the collector category which made them rare and expensive.  Then finally I came across Kids Stuff Canada, and there was a Cabbie.  I could have cried I was so happy.

Beside having a variety of options and selections I love that all the items are labeled with their current conditions (mint, gently loved, and so on), but mainly that there are tons of pictures so you can really get a good look at the product. If there are any parts broken or missing they also let you know.  It by far is one of my favorite thrift stores, and the fact that it is online makes it that much sweeter.

Here are a few other Online Second-Hand Kids Thrift Stores that I have come across:
